Geological Map of the British Isles prepared for the Rivers Pollution Commission, Sixth Report-the Domestic Supply of Great Britain, 1874 (date on map). Scale 1"=25 miles. Engraved, hand coloured 28.5"x23") Cut, mounted on linen to fold between marbled card covers into red cloth covered book style hard covers with gold embossed title. With signature of Edward Best to "RG Edmonds Esq…. with sincere regards" in bottom margin. The map is in good to very good condition. The cover is faded, the corners slightly bumped and the hinges of the spine are very frayed but holding together. The date on the cover is 1875. COPAC shows only one copy, at Natural History Museum, London. Very rare.

From Stanford's London Atlas Series, undated on map Engraved, hand coloured 26"x21") Cut, mounted on linen to fold between marbled card covers into red cloth covered book style hard covers with Stanford paste on label. The map and cover are very good condition. The cover is faded, the corners slightly bumped and the hinges of the spine are very frayed but holding together. The date on the cover is 1875. Listed in Rumsey in Rumsey as published as part of Stanford's London Atlas of Universal Geography, publ. 1901.

Geological Map of the British Islands, 1888 revised, W.Hughes, published by Geo.Philip and Sons. Scale 1:2,500,000. Colour printed, 21.25"x16.5", dissected, mounted on linen and folded between original red cloth- covered boards in folded book style to 7.25"x4.25". The map is clean and colours bright. The cover is very slightly soiled but scarcely worn. Lining paper inside of 'spine' has split on folds but does not affect cloth. Signature of former owner on end paper. Covers all the British Islands from Shetland (unusually not in an inset) and the Channel Islands in an inset map In addition to the geology, the continental shelf edge, co-tidal lines and an E-W topographic profile are shown. William Hughes (1818-1876) was Professor of Geology at Kings College and Queens College, London, and a prolific writer and mapmaker. Philip's early association with Bartholomews shows in the style and fine quality of printing. In very good condition.

Cut, mounted on linen to fold between marbled card covers, each with small location map on front cover, all fitting into original case plum covered case with gold embossed front , back and spine. Maps in very good condition, case very worn and parting at corners, original closure flap missing.
